Spider-Man Homecoming should have been bad, right? It's the third version inside one decade. But somehow they did it! They actually created something new. Here's everything right with Spider-Man Homecoming.

Great acting but let's be honest. If Peter just arrested him at that moment the movie would be over. He's basically defenseless in a car with a superhuman. He's absolutely done for. That gun has been proven to mean basically nothing to spiderman.

@en I’m pretty sure that is implied. Especially a genius like Tony has the smarts and tech to be able to discern what happened from the wreckage of the Vulture’s suit and how he’s still alive in jail. It doesn’t take Einstein to put 2 and 2 together for that situation.

Probably very late to the party, but I love how they leaned into Vulture's whole aesthetic by making him a villain whose whole business is built on picking apart dead bodies. Just like how real vultures mostly scavenge for food rather than hunting. Edit: got to the end of the video. He totally addressed this already. Oops.

The scariest part of the scene with Vulture in the car is that given Peter’s enhanced senses even if he didn’t see the gun he would have heard it being cocked, and he would have been able to smell the gunpowder plus the whole thing is a stark reminder that Peter really is just a kid. Sidenote I actually found Vulture more terrifying when he was out of the Vulture suit and was just being Toome’s, he was actually super intimidating just as a normal guy.

This one was really good. Tom Holland is excellent! The "teenagers" were, overall, fairly great. Marisa Tomei doesn't try to expand a rather small role, but packs very much into it. Michael Keaton brings psychological realism to comicbook villainy. He is definitely a bad guy, he's just a principled eye-for-an-eye guy: if you help him or at least don't mess with him, you are safe. Threaten his plans, you are dead. RDJ performs a high-schooler's idea of an adult: doesn't help, doesn't listen, doesn't appreciate, doesn't realize that in your own eyes you already are what you are striving to become. And, ultimately, someone who actually cares, tries to help without keeping you from growing, and who you really should have listened to.

I like Zendaya's character both in her own right and as a love interest for Peter, I just have a hard time seeing her as MJ in anything but name. That said, the fact that her real name is Michelle Jones and not Mary Jane tells me that they're aware of this and just gave her the nickname as a nod to the comics, which I can appreciate.

Jaar geleden
Larry Berry +1
Larry Berry

Yeah, I don't think she's supposed to be Mary' Jane Watson in any way. There is really zero connection. I see her as a character completely original to the movies, and the MJ tag was just to confirm that yes she's going to be the love interest. Though in that regard, I do wish they would have just called her Michelle even after the "My friends call me MJ" to emphasize the fact she's not Mary Jane.

"Everyone thinks you fall into your designated groups for 4 years." I mean....yeah Also, Aunt May looking younger definitely works. If Peter is ~15, then his Mom could be 40 (if she was alive and had Peter at 25). Heck, Aunt May could be the younger sister to Peter's Mom, so she could easily be 35, which is wayyyyy younger than the previous Aunt May's that looked 60+

@Flaninty well, to be fair he didn't exactly brag about "being a 90' kid" like you said, he just said he was. And he did explained why he said that in the first place in a later comment (you should look for it if you want). I get that you get annoyed by people claiming being for the 90', I sometimes don't like it too and how some even go to the extent of calling it the best era (which is understandable that they're biased because it's the time they were born in). But this guy was cool about it and I'm sure his statement came from somewhere honest and not to boost his ego, because it reminded him of something that makes him happy. I really do love a younger Aunt May. It's completely believable that in the MCU there is no Uncle Ben (which, isn't Ben Parker supposed to have been Peter's dad's brother?) and instead we've got someone was maybe 16 or 17 when her big brother had a kid and after he died when her nephew was a little kid and she was in her early 20s OF COURSE she took her nephew in even though she didn't have her own life together yet. It's very authentic to the dynamic Tomei and Holland portray that they almost grew up together a little.

Okayyyy I hate to do what is practically a youtube necro-post, but I have to throw this out there: some of yall are trying to say Cap was wrong for not telling Tony about his parents real cause of death. There's actually an interesting video on LegalEagle's channel talking about the legality of heroes refusing to save someone. Cap wasn't **obligated** to tell Tony, and as his friend he thought it was best to not cause him unnecessary grief. Think about it this way; you find out that your best friend's ex cheated on them (they don't know this currently) and you decide not to tell them. You aren't in the wrong OR the right. They may be mad at you, and you may feel guilty, but neither person is in the wrong.

I like how the vulture is genuinely a caring man and is so friendly toward a Peter until he learns what’s up. Additionally, how even when in prison, he refused to give away his identity, showing that he understood Peter was just doing what, as a hero, he had to do

What I like that they did with Peter is that they made him a terrible driver. He always was a shotty driver in the comics and I’m glad to see that transition over to the big screen.

15:12 i think the difference isnt the outcome, its the setup. if i remember correctly from the film tony knew about the arms deal and had the fbi there to investigate and deal with it, whereas on the plane peter was the only one who knew and he was there because he knew that it was his responsibility to try and help. tony took away his suit because peter wasnt being responsible with the 'great power' that the suit gave him. but when peter proved that he would still try and save the day even when he had nothing, tony knew that he would use the suit to become a better hero instead of relying on the suit to save him. also i like that in this film the "great power comes great responsibility" is almost flipped, with peter needing to prove his great responsibility in order to deserve great power, it makes a lot of sense given tonys history and fear of giving to much power to people not responsible enough to use it.

There are only 2 wins I feel you forgot to mention. 1. The young Aunt May actually makes more sense than her previous incarnations. Think about it, it makes no sense for Peter's mother to have a sister that looks like she's in her 80's. Plus, it's his Aunt May, not his _Great_ Aunt May. 2. "I'm.....loooking......at porn."

Jaar geleden

@Joshua Channing Ben was actually way older than his brother, like 20 years older (Which isn't unfeasible since my Aunt has a son that is 27 and another that is 4-5). Since Ben and May were roughly the same age, that's why she's around 60 when the comics first came out. Also saying that the actress is in her 50s does not mean that she's playing a character of the same age. It's like saying Toby Maguire's Peter Parker was 26 because that's how old he was during the first Spider-Man movie. Idm Aunt May looking younger than her 60s comic counterpart but then there are limits to that. Marisa Tomei looks like she's in her mid 30s. Also to those people saying that the age difference between Peter and May is too large to be believable, my Mum is 51 and my youngest cousins are around 4-8 years old. It's not that unbelievable Edit: Also adding to that last point, my Dad is 57 right now (I just didn't mention him because Mum is related to my youngest cousins by blood so that stuck in my head)

@TheSaxAppeal While all you say is true, they refer to the character as "MJ" which is how Mary Jane is referred to in the comics. As for Flash, I would rather he be a teenage jock/bully, like he was in the comics. I don't recall now if I said it here, but comic characters are largerly VISUAL in their nature. What they look like is a large part of their identity, so changing that breaks the connection to the character. This is why I don't like Marisa Tomei as May. This is why I wouldn't want Zendaya as MJ. It's why I disliked Idris Elba and Tessa Thompson as Heimdall and Valkyrie, respectively (also, those are NORSE characters, and should be white because the Norse gods would have been seen that way in the myths). They're all great actors, it has nothing to do with that. It just has to do with keeping the connection to the source material.

I also really loved how vulnerable peter is. A lot of times with male characters they aren't allowed to show any emotion beyond anger or strength, but this peter didn't follow that. I thought it was really refreshing to see a character who cries, messes up and feels sorry, shows his emotions, and genuinely cares about his friends while still being strong and saving lives in the process

It's also so raw and packed full of untold emotions. There's nothing held back with it; it's just pure, genuine fear at the situation. It's just pure shock, fear, and sorrow rolled into one beautiful masterful moment that just speaks volumes to Peter's helpless panic at the situation. It also makes his turnaround a lot more triumphant.

She's not even young, Marisa Tomei was in her 50s when the movie came out. The people that are complaining think she's 20 something and don't know any better. She's supposed to be his aunt, not grandmother. She's his aunt by marriage, so Uncle Ben was his blood uncle and she was his wife before his death.

Can confirm that having two beds in a one person room does happen. My brother had his own room, but two beds, because a lot of our furniture was hand-me-downs from cousins. So it was a set of furniture in his room that included two beds. But it was nice for him when he had friends sleep over.

@I agree with you 100% as a sophomore in HS the dialog didn't seem too out of place and feel that they did a great job in making spiderman likable and like the little guy. It humanizes him and helps us see him as a kid. Also, it makes a lot of sense to have Cptn America doing the videos. Isn't that exactly what school systems would do? Superheroes being household names makes sense, they're celebrities who everybody knows. And for being a standalone hero who is "unsuitable to carry an entire movie" he did far from home pretty well. I just can't see what your issue is with this film. Watching all of the other spiderman adaptations I had trouble connecting to the protagonist. And the dialog wasn't much better on a cringe scale.
