Everything GREAT About Pacific Rim!

Pacific Rim has a C- critic score, which is actually not terrible based on the premise. But I believe it actually steps beyond the borders of its genre....Nah. But it's still awesome and better than a C-. So this is why the critics are wrong. Here's everything right with Pacific Rim.

@lordjaraxxus 66 I feel like I may have misunderstood your point, but it seems like you're arguing that regular people with no degree has as much to say about the result as people who's done research on a subject, such as climate change deniers, flat-earthers, young-earthers and creationists. I won't rate sociologists vs biologists or physicists; they have different fields and they each do important work in their field. I think a phycisist should have as much to say about psychology as a regular person should; that is to say, they can comment on the findings, but they have no right to deny whether those findings are true or not. As for the policies based on those findings, that's true; that's no in the hands of scientists. As an example, scientists have found that climate change is true and that it's caused by human activity and they can certainly say that if we want to avoid climate change, we need to cut CO2 emissions. Whether we will or not is the decision of the people (or rather, our elected officials) Did this answer your concerns?

@Mr. Stuff Doer oh oh oh I know transformers is about cool robots that transforms and a really hot girl. We all clap our hands very nice, quite impressive. Pacific rim tells a story in a way that helps the the audience be fully engrossed, fully present each second of the movie and the robots were just like iPhones although amazing in all its Glory accepted by humans as did that now what (it's human nature to not be impressed by things so long). It exposes humans with all our flaws and all our virtues. From the business man doing business as the world is in impending doom, to the news people lossing their minds when the monster breaks the wall to the people building the wall to the government doing stupid things when they're supposed to protect you. A true dance between science and fiction because science doesn't know everything so there. To compare with transformers is to say all movies that show grass belong to the grass category. Also, I don't think people realize why we liked this movie so much. Also you learn that the monsters have a singular brain with the same dna were as humans have different brains, different dna, were all different and that why they were able to have different approaches and different references and different robots. The movie is great because it makes you proud of being human and you don't even realize it. It makes you feel like you won, not they but WE because it's so rich at including all the aspects of what makes up human.yah dig lol 🤣 I'll see myself out.

One thing that was major attention to detail. In the final battle, all the holes and open hatches of the Jaegers are sealed before they go underwater. Striker doesn't use its chest mounted missile launcher, and Gipsy doesn't use its plasma cannon. Why? Because those would be opening ports of the Jaegers, allowing flooding.

10 maanden geleden

Also because of the flooding issues. The Jaegers have machinery inside that can be damaged, especially by large amounts of sea water flooding in, and sea life. Striker Eureka using its missiles underwater is just asking for major damage.

I love the attention to detail. In the Hong Kong battle, Gipsy succeeded where the others failed because 1. it ran on nuclear power. 2. It was fast enough to dodge the acid 3. The head wasn't as exposed as CTs. And when Newt drifted with the Kaiju brain, it figured out about Cherno, Striker and Typhoon, but not Gipsy, which is why it managed to come in and save the day (the Precursors didn't throw out a Kaiju that specialized in dealing with it). Now THAT is detail

8 maanden geleden

I found Gipsy dodging the acid a little out of place. The rest of the movie the Jaegers are these massive machines that rightly take time in their movements. But in that instant she displays an uncanny quickness that's not seen again. They just needed to pull it off in a different way to keep the cohesion of the movie.

wasn't it said in the black that there were quite a few who did solo runs but only a handful where successful and taylor either picked at random or the one that went the best for the ghost drift he did, and I'm pretty sure Stacker and Raleigh weren't on the list, which, if I'm right, I'm guessing is due to both doing solo runs in old model jeagers so the data from the solo run was never transmitted and archived anywhere but then again if taylor did chose the one that went best, it would have either been stacker or Raleigh, since Raleigh killed a kaiju whilst feeling and experiencing his brother's death before getting the jaeger back to land which was when he finally stopped piloting, Stacker on the other hand had his copilot pass out then said "fuck it, I'll do it on my own" and killed a kaiju, so really Raleigh would be the best choice but probably wouldn't be picked out of a risk that his ghost would allow the more than likely debilitating pain of his brother's death to bleed over to Taylor thus possibly deterring people from using him for the run, or that may be why he's not there as they didn't want anyone drifting with his ghost due to some1 trying before and the pain bleeding over probably had some serious adverse effects on the person and they didn't want to risk it again, as for stacker in this case it'd probably still be due to him doing the solo run in what I believe was a 1st gen jaeger and they just didn't think to recorde the drift/run data since the knew everything worked and no-one ever thought someone would try or have to do a solo run Also the edit was done on my phone so excuse formatting errors and other stuff

Honestly I would add an extra win for the entire Typhoon and Cherno fight against Otachi and Leatherback. Even when there are individual wins thrown in, the whole sequence works great as a cinematic fight scene, it's fun and interesting, builds character with Striker Eureka's disobeying of Stacker's commands and it adds a lot of tension for the final dive into the rift, as these two very powerful weapons against the Kaiju are destroyed, both depleting humanity's resources and once again establishing the incredible threat that Kaiju are. The two Jaegers, despite their very short screentime, are also filled with personality, which makes their eventual destruction almost hard to watch. I still watch the scene every now and then and each time I hope it will end differently even when I know what will happen.

Ya know what I love about the jeagers in this movie, they actually look and feel like giant bipedal war machines with slow and heavy punches, they also had different generations of jeagers to keep it interesting, cherno alpha was a mk1, gypsy danger was a mk3, crimson typhoon was a mk4 and striker Eureka was a mk5 and you could see the technology in the jeagers getting better with each generation, cherno actually looked like a tank on legs with slow but incredibly strong punches, when we first see gypsy she's a slow yet powerful tank just like cherno but when we see her in action after she was repaired and upgraded to sort of a mk3.5 we can see that gypsy is a lot faster while still packing one hell of a punch, really great stuff that the sequel didn't deliver on unfortunately

One of the greatest elements of this amazing film is verisimilitude. You can "feel" the size and weight of both the jaegers and the kaiju. The scene where Crimson Typhoon activates its "super" attack, we see the rocket thrusters on its back get activated in a sequential order to help with the rotation of its torso (its hydraulics whouldn't be able to move that thing left and right so fast). Yeah, the scene with the boat-sword isn't that realistic but it is awesome! Amazing designs, cohesive story and good character development. Another great Del Toro creation! The sequel... well... good idea in theory... terrible execution (with a few virtues).

Quite apart from the awesomeness that is monsters vs robots, I love this movie for introducing the idea of drift compatibility. We don’t really have a word for intimacy that transcends our social roles. You can be drift compatible within familial, romantic, or platonic relationships. It’s a concordance of purpose and feeling and intent. I think it was in service to this idea that we didn’t have to have the Final Kiss. Like you said, the core of the relationship isn’t about that.

fun detail / fan theory kind of? The Kaiju that were appearing before the big hong kong fight were all sea creature based, which makes sense because the rift is in the ocean. BUT after drifting with Charlie Day the kaiju that were grown were not only equipped with anti jaeger weaponry but also were based on terrestrial animals! animals that they wouldn't have had knowledge of prior. neat!

As far as I'm aware, this is exactly correct, and it can also be pointed out that The kaijus at the end of the movie, Slattern, Scunner and raiju, were all specifically designed to take on the jaegers in Water, as the precursors now knew that they were planning on attacking the breach, so they designed kaiju to protect it.

@deltaRed What you said is true, completely. Why Gipsy was better is because they adapted and confused by infusing different fighting techniques. They didn't do the same old song and dance like Typhoon (Thundercloud Formation), Striker (Six Shooter) and Cherno (Giant Fists). Also why Raleigh chose Mako for the drift. She employed different fighting tactics when she sparred with him.

Also, Leatherback and Otachi were built specifically to take out Striker (EMP), Crimson (Otachi's tail, which would allow her to counter it's third arm), and Cherno (Otachi's acid and Leatherback's muscle, both made to destroy it's armor) Those were the three remaining Jaegers, Danger had only recently been repaired, so Newt's drift never gave away any information on her to the Precursors, and thus allowed her to fight on even ground with these two

The sword is meant as a last resort due to the kajiu blood being toxic/harmful to humans and therefore blunt attacks and plasma attacks are more suited for dealing with kajiu(the plasma cauterises the wound a bit preventing/lessening blood splatter/spill)
