@BleedingRaindrops I said it’s hard to be used, not that it can’t hahaha. In emergency situations, very few would think calmly enuf to use the optimal method. It’s whatever one thinks of at that moment that counts

@Denise Lai I still think elbows *could* have been used, but that second point is valid. In high intensity situations we revert to our most basic level of training. So yeah I guess a punch was more automatic

@BleedingRaindrops Might because in water, its hard to be in a position to use the elbows. He had to grab onto something on the bottom ledge of the mirror. Also, he might've had very little time to think;')

it always bothered me why he was punching it instead of elbowing it. not only is the elbow a narrower surface, it can deliver much more powerful hits due to the position of the pectoral as the blow lands combined with the sheer thickness of the bone there, as opposed to the small, breakable bones in one's hand. and there's also much less damageable tissue on the elbow.

10:45 one moment I’m sad didn’t get mentioned about the church fight (even though yes, it was very easy to miss) was there’s a moment where Galahad slips a grenade into a guys pocket and when it goes off near him, Galahad suffers some hearing loss with a ringing in his ears for a few seconds and during them you can see a slight look of horror come over his face as he comes to his senses since he can’t hear the rage signal coming from everyone’s phones and realizes what he’s doing...right before he recovers, can hear the phones again, and goes right back to destroying everyone else in that room. That’s like an extra 10 win for detail in my book

Fun fact; the "pour gin while looking at an unopened bottle of vermouth" is a reference to Winston Churchill, probably the most famous Englishman of all time, who also is famously quoted as ordering martinis using variants of the phrase. For instance: "I would like to observe the vermouth from across the room while I drink my martini." or "Glance at the vermouth bottle briefly while pouring the juniper distillate freely." or "Churchhill famously said the only way to make a martini was with ice-cold gin, and a bow in the direction of France."

I have this theory that Michael Caine’s character was originally given a poor upbringing similar to Eggsy, or even worse. The evidence that I have to support this is his numerous derogatory comments throughout the film about commoners like Eggsy not being fit for this agency (internalized shame about his past) and near the end when eggsy poisons him and he begins cursing him in his last moments, his accent changes to some thing that sounds much less proper than it had been before, as if he was dropping the act. His ascension from lower class peasant to ‘Arthur’ had caused him to look down on others in such situations, like eggsy and his father. Am I reaching too far on this one?

One thing I noticed (and loved) about the directing of the action scenes, is that when there is a cut, the position on the screen of the focal point of action remains constant across the cut. Otherwise your brain takes a fraction of a second to locate the new bit of action and you miss what happens for the next 1/4 of a second or so, and it's disorientating. This way it's easier and quicker to pick up what's going on and makes the scene easier to follow.

Trained in school as gymnast in school, helped me with agility in Hurling (Irish sport, requiring a lot of speed and fast intuitive actions). I dabbled in parkour but found it cringey, which was my own opinion but still, I found the gymnast levels of balance and confidence in your actions helped it to a large degree. Also helps with dancing but that's besides the point

I agree with you as impressive as the fight scene was, it was also equally disturbing. Because it was so long I had forgotten that they were a bunch of racists. I was never cheering Galahad on but was impressed by the craftsmanship of the scene.

The term “British accent” is one of the most unrealistic things ever. First of all, when people say “British accent”, they only ever mean English, posh English to be precise. Britain contains four countries: England, Scotland, Wales and Northern Ireland. England has possibly the widest range of accents, from Scouse (Liverpool) to Brummy (Birmingham) to the one you’re likely most familiar with, “posh” English. The reason Americans seem to think all of England speak posh is because the only place they hear the English accent is from theatre school refined actors and celebrities. There are 51 cities in England, all of which have different accents. Very different accents. Scotland, Wales and Northern Ireland also have their own wide ranges of accents. So, obviously now you can see why saying “British accent” makes no sense at all. London isn’t the entirety of the UK, yeah?

The issue with "British" is definitely the fact that british refers to numerous countries. "English" is much less broad but still varies alot. But that generalization happens to everyone, Colloquialisms and accents change as easily as driving a few miles to the next town in pretty much any country. My mate lives less than an hour away and some of the things I'll say will make him go "What does that mean" when it's an extremely common phrase around where I live. And his da's voice does my head in. It's the voice you'd expect from the sterotypical tracksuit wearing dickhead. Which is pretty funny cuz the man looks like an off brand Austin powers lmao Plus If I go one county over, some accents are so fucking thick I can't understand a word. When people say "I love X accent" they're usually referring to a stereotyped accent, and alotta sterotypical accents aren't even that common an accent but they ARE distinct. I've never met someone with a "Posh british" accent, and I'm 22 already. But I have met snobs, and they sounded like Irish trailer trash lmao

For Eggsy's parkour scene, I never took it to be a translation of gymnastics skills; the way he does it immediately gave me the feeling he has another IG where he posts parkour vids and probably does that in his free time. I'll bet he had some sort of "natural talent" for it, though, stemming from this gymnastics background.

I enjoy this movie quite a lot, though I have to say, after a few repeats it becomes a bit strange that most Kingsman candidates are from well-off, "posh" backgrounds. Yes that's the premise and image of Kingsman so it didn't stick out the first couple times I watched it, but why would upper class families, some so well connected as to be on Valentine's shortlist, send their children to become spies who have to live a secret life of danger? Or become targeted recruits? Most spy movies show agencies recruiting young people with no background or connections, such as orphans, so that money is an incentive, and little or no attachment to distract them from the job or compromise information etc.

I love this movie and I really appreciate the Formula 51 reference you made, when are we getting an Everything Great About that movie? I never noticed the length of Eggsy's hair and that was like the only complaint I ever had about this movie, the fact that he could fight like that with what seemed like only a few months training. Something that I thought was really cool about the Kingsman fighting style is that if you watch it closely, no matter how they're moving they still have perfect posture. Even when he's dodging knife swings Galahad kept his back straight. I have to say though, you kept talking about how good Colin Firth looks in that suit(can't disagree) but you never said anything about what Sofia Boutella was doing to those yoga pants. Which is kind of a disservice in my opinion. "The smartest man to ever grace youtube with his presence." isn't that the same guy who once published an entire essay about accidentally buying 1000 fake dog testicles? And one about hypnotizing yourself using Conan the Barbarian?

5:55 there’s over 200 counties in the UK and most of them have their own regional accents. It really depends on where are you - if I went to London then majority of people sound like egsy. If I went to Yorkshire they sound like John snow. Even further north are geordies (my least favourite). East and West Country have a “farmer” accent. Plus Scouse, Manchester, Dorset, Essex, Birmingham 🤢. And then there’s Wales and Scotland who have all their own regional accents too! TL;DR the UK has a crazy amount of accents. The “posh” accents are spread out - they can be anywhere 👀 go to the local private school and that’s where they all congregate.
