I like how Yelenas “last words” before she blows up Dreykovs ship were “This was fun” as in sorta of an answer to Nats invitation to take down the red room, cause she says it “Could be fun tho” :))

@Hesti Indah sari Oh fuck that joke. "This would be a cool way to die" and then she goes and freezes about 200 people to death. How about those innocent prison guards you froze to death Yelena? Freezing is a slow, painful way to go. You also left a bunch of prison guards in with their prisoners, so you can probably guess how they die. They will eat eachother in their. Hell, I'd probably shoot myself if my only option was freezing. No one will help these people. Yelena is an asshole

This movie made the line in Endgame even sadder: "Do we know if she had any family?" "yea, us." But she did have family. she had people to mourn her outside of the Avengers. I look forward to seeing Yelena in the Hawkeye show. Hopefully Clint 'adopts' her like he did Wanda and they bond over their love for Nat and team up.

@Mr. Dr0boT I think what he meant by adopt was to do what he did with Nat and make her a part of his family as in Age of Ultron she has a strong bond with Clint’s family (almost like a family)those scenes kinda make it clear that they’re less like romantic lovers as everyone thinks but more like big brother and little sister that’s why they have such a strong bond because they are family,

From what I've read about the movie, it really suffers from the editing room. There was a lot of stuff with David Harbour that didn't make the movie, among other things. Some bits that did make the theatrical cut ended up being a bit off because of it, but I still enjoyed it. It was a solid MCU movie, not the best, nor the worst. I do agree that the movie deserved to be shown before Endgame, though now they have a plot line to set up for future Yelena/Widows action that they wouldn't have had otherwise.

Another fun thing that could have been in infinity war/endgame if this was made before, the widows could have come to join the fight, including yelena meaning that when cap asks “do we know if she had any family” Clint(who was most likely paying close attention since he’s curious about Natasha’s life) could have been able to say “yeah and i know how to contact them” then yelena could have joined the avengers and focused her energy on thanos, and after she could have just kinda hung around, bada bing bada boom she’s the new black widow

Florence Pugh is just such a great actress and I didn't think her comedic timing would've been that good either, considering my first impression of her was Midsommar. Additionally I think this movie is still technically Natasha's movie but at the same time it puts a lot of the spotlight on Yelena since she is supposed to become the new Black Widow in future films/shows.

Catharsis Factor: -Yelena freeing the Widows from their conditioning is *extremely satisfying* when they're attacking Natasha. Natasha freeing Taskmaster/Antonia also counts. -Yelena blowing Dreykov to smithereens is a pleasant sight to see after *how utterly repulsive he's been throughout the movie,* especially when Natasha reassures Antonia with the news after freeing her. Antonia: Is *he* gone? Natasha: Yes. *He's* gone.

I think the first 30? minutes or so of this movie is one of my favourite beginnings to any marvel movie. We start with a family we don't immediately recognise, but who we fall in love with because of how sweet everyone is, then they escape on a small-scale but really skillfully done and tense action scene, the likes of which are rare in superhero movies. Following that is a FANTASTIC opening montage set to what has to be the PERFECT song, then cut to Nat on the run, looking and acting more real and human than we've ever seen her. I love all the details we discover about her: the clothes she wears to be comfortable, how she acts with friends that aren't her colleagues, we see her watching movies on a laptop (which really struck me, idk why no-one in Marvel watches movies on laptops). And then closing out the first act is the confrontation on the bridge with Taskmaster, and their fight had me in the cinema thinking 'This is AWESOME!'. I love the lighting and the score to their fight, and it's choreographed so well so that the audience learns what Taskmaster's deal is along with Nat. Not to say I don't love the rest of the movie, especially all the family scenes, but that first third felt like such a breath of fresh air to a character that has never been able to shine fully.

A few things that I want to mention though is in the action scene, for some reason they don't shoot the engines or wheels of the plain. They shoot the glass, a lot, but it really makes you suspend your disbelief when a single-engine shot to hell plane makes it straigth from Ohio to Cuba. How did they fly low enough to account for the windows being compromised and not get stopped? Yeah, I mean the fight with Taskmaster is cool except he has at least 5 chances to easily kill Natasha, grab the vials and get out. "character that has never been able to shine properly" sure, she didn't successfully complete an interrogation of Loki, be an absolute badass in the first movie, hold her own against Proxima Midnight in Infinity War, Sacrifice herself to literally save everyone in Endgame, infiltrate S.H.I.E.L.D. and with a little help from Fury stop Alexander Pierce, and she definitely did not try her hardest to keep together her defacto family in Civil War despite them all breaking apart. Nope, this is the first movie she ever actually shined.

Scorpion Braid +175

When you mentioned Yelena wearing her heart on her sleeve being what broke Natasha down I think you missed how that was so much a part of Natasha's coping mechanism. Yelena was young enough to form an identity around her "family" whereas Natasha went into that operation knowing it would end and that on some level it wasn't real. Yelena needed it to be real so she created a whole other reality in the back of her mind where her family was safe. Natasha had to separate herself from it in order to move on and do what needed to be done. Both coping mechanisms are so much in line with their characters. Natasha as a spy has to move from one life to the next having formed and severed many connections in the process. Yelena as an assassin does the job and walks away, the most she interfaces with people is to feign distress to gain a tactical advantage. They both have had to deal with their shared trauma in different ways that were personal for them and effective for their unique survival.

@Maya That is a boring and lazy excuse for the retcon that insults Natasha's intelligence and goes against what she knows of the Red Room's effect on the girls, and it doesn't fix the character assassination because she still would've tried to find her and contact her, given that (from what I can tell and how anyone fans have explained it) the last time they saw each other was when Yelena was being ripped away from her in the opening credits, shortly after Natasha pulled a gun to protect her. She 100% would've made the effort to check on her and talk to her given what we know of her character.

Lorne Balfe man. His scores have been so phenomenal recently and even years back from his time for tv shows and past games like MW and Assassin's Creed 3. The fact he kept it as real with a full orchestral team in Abbey Road Studios and helped make new motifs for Natasha and almost each main character, (my favorite tracks being Yelenas theme and Natasha Soars), his effort for the tone helped so much to bring you in that dreadful feeling in some moments. Even when this film kept the same Marvel like positive tone through the film, his music is a main reason for helping me be engaged in the story and moment between characters. I know it ain't likely he'll get huge nominations for this, but I hope to God for a possibility. (Though not as good as Zack Snyder's Justice League score by Junkie XL 😌👌🏾)

@King Wobbegong, Sea Urchin Farmer Milena was put through the Widow program herself? She was also abused, tortured, and then conditioned to loyally follow Dreykov no matter what, she even says she has the pheromonal lock on her like all Widows do. She is a victim of Dreykov, like all the other Widows. As for all the larger issues you're talking about, I'm just going to completely avoid it, as I find arguing about that kind of thing on the internet to be a pointless endeavor usually. Just wanted to point out that the plot makes it clear Milena was once a Widow herself, and was put through similar things that Nat and the rest would've been.

2 maanden geleden
King Wobbegong, Sea Urchin Farmer +2

@Jennifer Picado Fine, I will go make my movie. Bet it'll be better than this piece of shit. Also, Milena was a main abuser of these innocent women, yet she never get's any comeuppance. Especially when all those women are freed from the mind control, and standing right next to the woman who subjected them to this torture. If I'm being honest, if I were one of the Black Widows, I probably would have pulled out my gun and riddled Milena with 30 bullets, before spitting on her corpse. If you look at my comment, I have no issue with women being abused and overcoming it. Stories of a person overcoming cruelty or violence always warms my cold dead heart. But when you turn it into that the women are all just being abused by the cruel evil men (If you notice, all the male characters in this movie are either weak, pathetic, or stupid, whereas the women are all strong, smart, and trying to escape the issues men place on them. This is not a coincidence.) "Used and abused by men" if you shortened it to used and abused, I wouldn't have even made my comment.

But hey, I should check my privelege, because in the real world OBVIOUSLY only men ever abuse people and women are perfect idols who are being suppressed by that pesky patriarchy. Everyone was great in this. Florence brought the emotion when it counted and was snarky as anyone when she needed to be. David was cringy with his dadisms, but you could tell Alexei was trying his best to actually be a father in his way, and it takes a special talent to be able to pull that off without actually being cringy. Rachel can do accents with the best of them, and watching her slip right back into the motherly role as soon as they show up at her house is just wonderful. Scarlett, of course, tries to hide Nat’s issues under her professionalism as a spy/assassin, but it comes right back up at the dinner table. And the villain is absolutely what we expect from a dirty old man who sees women as disposable tools.

Agreed. Instead of a captain marvel movie. They should have made a black widow one before infinity war. To me captain marvel was so not needed in the infinity war saga with Thanos. Remove Captain marvel from the storyline and it still would have made sense.

I absolutely LOVE Florence Pugh and David Arbor. And this movie, in general, is great. I mean, the people who hate this movie or think it's boring are entitled to their opinion and all. But I feel like they probably went into it with the wrong expectations. I love the combination of family comedy and spy action. It just… works, somehow. It shouldn't, but it does, and Harbor and Pugh are doing a lot of the heavy lifting.

This was a fun movie to watch, i do believe marvel's strength comes in the smaller self contained stories than the big grandiose ones. however my only real issues with the movie come with how they handled task master (unless they'll retcon a task master 2.0 or whatever) i think it was a major waste of a character. i mean it might have been cool to keep the familial connection but turning task master into black widow but scared just didn't do it for me. like the action scenes were great and no disrespect to the actress who was really good, but they could have named this character something else or hinted that there's a different task master closer to the one task master fans know of. my other issue is actually not with the movie itself but the mouse. I can't believe how much they tried to rip her off by saying they'll base her pay off the theatre release while also releasing it for disney plus. like that's damn dirty.

@Avery Merrick Small technicality. The original plan was to have a BW solo movie was planned all the way back in 2010 after IM2 but Ike Perlmutter (former chairman of Marvel Entertainment) nixed that idea due to the belief that a female led superhero movie wouldn't work. He was also blocking the Black Panther and Captain Marvel movies for years. Once Bob Iger (the former CEO of Disney) split the MCU from Marvel other properties in 2015 to relieve tensions from the New York office (which caused most of the problems) then Fiege tried again with the movie on the release date you stated. So Fiege basically has to do damage control as the new CCO of all of Marvel since Ike was a roadblock for all of the movies that were female led or minority led. Hence why we didn't get Black Panther's Debut until Civil War and Solo movie until 2018 amongst others because of some issues still with the NY office even though Ike left in 2016

@Spidervenom23 I'd argue that even Alexander Pierce is more grey than Dreykov. Pierce, even as hydra, truly believed that what he was doing was for the good of humankind. He was of course wrong, but he truly believed in it. Dreykov simply wanted power, and felt like the best way to get it was exploiting what he claimed was our most prevalent otherwise useless resource in his eyes, which were women. He's a monster, a misogynist, who when he saved his own daughter turned her into a weapon. Alexander Pierce is evil, but Dreykov is irredeemable, because he has no interest in the good of others, only what he can control and have for himself.

@King Wobbegong, Sea Urchin Farmer Well, I definitely have been reading your entire comments. And never once did I claim criticism was bad. As an aspiring author, I know very well how important criticism is. However, criticism shed in a positive light is more helpful and sticks better than criticism shown in a negative light. That's the point I was trying to get across. -- As a sidebar, sorry about the 'fam' thing. I usually use that as a gender neutral name because people get really annoyed when I use dude for some reason. Though I will point out that I'm not a 'sir' lol. -- The biggest thing about your initial criticism was how it was directed. But I'm glad you see my point on that and do regret the wording you used. Yeah, knowing Natasha must survive can take out tension. "She's not going to die, what's it matter?" But that's when you look at it from a different angle. "She's not going to die, but how does she survive?" can hold just as much tension. In /most/ movies, we know the main character is going to survive to the climax. That's the way movies work. That doesn't mean everything building up to the climax lacks tension, it's just a different kind of tension. And don't get me wrong, there were definitely some poor decisions made in this movie. Taskmaster was kind of a waste and I feel the big baddy went down too easy in the end. Also felt the Widows were criminally underused. But those are all subjective opinions because fictional Steve might have loved every single one of those parts. (And just to be clear, Steve is 100% made up! Steve is the default name I use for fictional BS lol) -- As for the topics on debate....... Yeah, I'm an English nerd. I don't really with the debate thing. I just try to explain my POV best I can and do my best to look at the other POV before making as informed decision as I can on a topic. I can see why the joke about "cool way to die" fell flat for you. However, the joke didn't fall flat for me. The scene wasn't objectively bad. But that's our opinions.

@Bratist On your negativity comment on me: Did you not notice my previous comment where I looked on the positive side and pointed out actual good things in the movie? Before you continue reading, I get the impression you have not actually been reading my entire comments. I have done the courtesy of examining your arguments and attempted to understand them, please show the same to me. Maybe you might try opening your mind and looking at something from a different viewpoint. Criticism should not be looked at as negativity. Do I need to explain myself again? Criticism is helpful in making something better. When someone makes a car, but that car barely functions and moves like 3 snails pushing 13 snails, if someone says nothing and the creator of said car just decides that he succeeded, nothing will get better. When something is objectively not a good thing, like this movie for various reasons (if you want my full reasoning for hating this movie, I will be glad to provide). If you are saying I am bitching at this person, I never called this person any thing close to bad, the worst I said is if he believes these criminals who are serving their punishment to society should be frozen to death, he isn't mature enough to watch Sesame Street. I never said that that person was an immature moron, and if you've ever done a debate, you'll find that remaining reasonable and uninsulting is key to success. Granted, I probably tipped the edge with that statement, and I regret that. "because then everyone just get's super defensive and doubles down on their initial opinions rather than opening their minds and looking at things from different viewpoints" have you realized that is exactly what you are doing? So far your comments about this have all been positive reinforcements of the said content, and you've never looked through my angle. I have tried looking through yours and that is the basis of which I make my arguments along with logic. CinemaWins himself only focuses on the good in his opinion in things, but rarely does he stop himself on just winning anything by looking at counterarguments or looking through different angles. In debate, I make 2 arguments, one for, or one against, as A, in an official debate I could debate either side, and B, two understand both viewpoints before finding my own viewpoint. "Relax fam, it's just a movie" one, don't call me fucking fam, I hate that nickname more than a lot on this planet. Also, this is a movie. This is a piece of entertainment I had for over 2 hours, and ultimately yes, it does come down to whether or not I was entertained. I can point out objective flaws in the movie, such as Natasha taking massive damage throughout the entire movie (Masktasker blowing up her car, it flipping and crashing through multiple things, twice, for a good few seconds. Nat falling from a seven story building, crashing through pipes, and getting up easily.) Because of these things, I find it hard to remain invested as what can kill my hero? If there is no stakes as she can survive so many things that can realistically kill here, why do I care? Why am I watching? "The scene was not objectively bad" almost all of the statements I pointed out are objective flaws with it. If it was subjectively bad, I would say, "I thought it wasn't funny" which was never even one of the arguments I brought up, I brought up the writing. I tend to disagree with someone in a respectful manner. If disrespect comes my way from another comment(actual insults. To clarify, no, you have not I felt disrespected me or intentionally insulted me, there are reasons I have remained civil), I no longer have reason to keep things civil. If CinemaWins is a subjective reviewer, about how they just liked something, terrific. I can give my reasons why I didn't like something, and if I use objectivity, who cares. But if CinemaWins tries to bring up positive objective points, I have full authority to shoot down every one of his points. If you think I am too negative, the only comments you have seen from me are on a video I disliked or movie I disliked. I myself have been planning a series similar to CinemaWins, but where I try to find objectively good points in movies, bad or good, to try and help people appreciate no matter how bad something is, it might still have good parts. About your thing on Steve, my reasoning for liking the scene is that throughout the movie they try to make us feel that shattered as they are, they are a family who cares about eachother. Yelena is angry with her family, as she feels betrayed and uncared for. Alexei realizes this and brings something from her childhood that she remembers to show he does care about her. It's a small scene, and while the movie tries to say Alexei cares, he rarely get's a chance to show it, and this scene is one of them. I apologize for the exceptionally long comment, I do not tend to do comments this long, but I had quite a bit to say. If you want to respond, please feel free, I am always open to criticisms as a way to learn, and I will respond back, you can be assured. Please kind sir, have a nice day. Or night. Whatever timezone of the world you're in. Damn it, just have a nice day.

@King Wobbegong, Sea Urchin Farmer CinemaWins pointing out the various things they enjoy about movies is fake liking things? Wow, you really hold a lot of negativity close to your chest. Relax fam, it's just a movie. -- As for your comment about "making movies better," I'll hit you with a counter-argument. Steve doesn't like the American Pie scene and thinks it was too cliche. Steve believes the movie should've cut that scene out in order to make it better. You and Steve disagree. Who is right? You or Steve? Neither because both are simply opinions. 99% of people are pretty chill with the avalanche scene. So why would the producers feel like that was a mistake? The scene was not objectively bad, you just feel it was poorly done because you looked WAY too far into the scene which had nothing to do with the story that was being told. -- And finally, as for harping about bad things in the movie, my point in my response to you was that you were bitching at the original commenter on their opinion of the scene, which was never stated in the first place, and I kindly informed you that you clearly misread the original comment and that their opinion was never stated one way or another. Positivity isn't pretending to like something. If you disagree with someone, do so in a respectful manner please. You can disagree with other's opinions or even give negative feedback, but do so in a positive manner. That's the point of this channel and frankly is something that should be strived towards more in life. Negativity only breeds more negativity and helps no one in the end because then everyone just gets super defensive and doubles down on their initial opinions rather than opening their minds and looking at things from different viewpoints.

The introduction of the film was pretty impressive. The MCU has no problems coming up with different ideas and ways to introduce us to the story , but seeing this happy family opening that so clearly is designed to give this happy sub urban ,american family imagine only to be followed by a fleeing scene that highlights the forced escape from their lives, rather than the escape from the authoritize. Then we see the trafficking/training montage with a cover of " smells like teen spirit" and it genuinly gave the impression just how shit growing up like this must have been. IWe've been told before that it was bad, but this whole opening section of the film makes it even more clear and provide an infodump/foreshadowing that comes relevant later in the film. It worked well and caught my attention. Spy Thrillers really do work in the MCU.

I loved this film for the same dumb reason I loved frozen. I adore my baby sister and sister bonds are super fricking powerful. The strong themes of sisterhood, or rather just the bonds between women (mother daughter, friends, sisters etc) was so amazing. The media is really quick to portray women as shallow, vapid and vicious. But my whole life I've only ever know the friendly gals in the loo on a Friday night out. Or the stranger offering me some of her chips on the bus. Or the Facebook group full of weirdos that love hiking offering support to a random lady who just got her heart broken. Those bonds between women are so often ignored or unseen and the way the widows came together really symbolised that connection for me. I guess it's just nice to see the hidden side to women. Our compassion and ability to love strangers under the name of sisterhood is remarkable and I want to see more of it. 🥰

May I just complain that the two fall scene before the "big one" were what bugged me the most in this movie as they defy anatomy more than braking your fall with a not quite opened parachute... Spread-eagled you reach "terminal velocity" of around 55km/h after a couple of seconds of free fall and won't accelerate after that and it also only takes a couple of seconds to slow down with a parachute. But the forces involved in re-directing your momentum by grabbing a railing?!? Nat must have reinforced shoulder joints and rubber ribs for sure!

Could you win the movie "The Sorcerer's Apprentice"? The one with Nicholas Cage. It flopped, and basically no one talks about it, but for some reason it's a really dear movie to me.

Honestly Jay Baruchel kind of wrecks that movie for me, but the rest of the characters and the awesome mythology and world built into that movie is excellent.

I finally had the chance to watch this over Thanksgiving weekend and holy shit did I not expect it to be that good! Florence Pugh is DEFINITELY always a win in my book and David Harbour absolutely nailed it.

I enjoyed this movie. Great fun, great acting, a decent storyline, and some great deliveries from Harbour and Pugh. That being said...this movie needed to come out a long time ago. It's hard to reconcile all that happens in this movie and then look at all the movies after Civil War and be like "huh...why didn't they mention, well, any of this?" This movie works best as a standalone film, but there are too many big picture moments in this movie that are simply ignored by the other movies (by virtue of the fact of being written after those movies) and that's what I just can't shake.

8:43 Here's the weird thing about that scene: Masktasker has every reason to want to kill Nat. Nat blew up Taskmanager when Fartcaster was a little girl. Assblaster survived, but the Master of Tasks should want to kill Natasha, and has perfect reason to. The fact that (not) FastMaster just ups and is like nope, this lady who killed me, an innocent child to kill my dad, fuck it, I forgive her, it's only my dad who wronged me. Honestly, if I were SassCaster I'd be pretty fucking pissed that I was chosen to be sacrificed at a young age. I think it would have also been more interesting if Notfaster kept trying to kill Nat, as that would make sense.

I was about the get very slightly peeved at that "is the safety still on" quote, because I'm fairly certain the gun only has a palm safety (meaning that as long as you hold it correctly, it's ready to shoot). But then the pheromone thing came up and I can led it slide.

While so many movies make the "safety" mistake with Glocks and revolvers, I think in this case he was mocking her inability to pull the trigger.

4 maanden geleden
Khendon555
Khendon555

Its a glock so it actually has a trigger safety! basically there is a switch on the trigger so unless you are putting direct pressure on the front face of the trigger it won't fire.

the best part was knowing that nat had a plan from the start, especially at the part when she started taunting him bc of what we’ve seen in previous movies, so damn satisfying

Totally get what you are saying, like taking off the safety on a revolver. In this case thought Dreykov was just mocking her because he knew she could not pull the trigger.

think this is a case of intentionally mocking her he knows she can't pull the trigger so he lets her stew while poking fun at her inability

Touched on my thoughts right in the last few moments; we couldn't have has this movie back at Civil War release or Florence Pugh would have been too young and wouldn't have been in it. And for me she raises it from "meh another Marvel" to "really good for its own sake". I can watch her over and over and not get bored of her.
