8:58 Just my Opinion, but I always felt like she chose this moment to finaly speak up against Ego and warn the Guardians is because in this moment, she felt, for the first time, what a parent loosing a child SHOULD feel. She witnessed Egos Emotions for so many years and through so many times that he killed offsprings and he probably NEVER felt as much as 0,0001% of the grief that Drax is feeling here. I would add an extra win for when Peter says "what's so wrong with that?" Mainly because it highlights exactly what it is that makes heroes of the MCU so brilliant. It's not the abilities or suits or magic powers or whatever - it's being decent people who stand up and do what's right when other people can't. Peter is a good person and does what he can to save people, flawed as he is, and doesn't need powers to do so. Because he's just like everybody else, and that's awesome.

@Matthew Allen Her character as far as I saw could use a few tweaks to make her a little more unique. But you are right that she has some good character if you really look at it. But it seems to be a recurring theme for SW fans to hate actors who portray specific characters. I can understand not liking Jar Jar Binks but to actively search for him on social media to bully him and send him death threats? That is not cool in the slightest. What makes it even worse is that these people weren't edgy teenagers or young adults trying to be controversial. These were 40+ year old men.... let that sink in. Forty year old man babies sent death threats to actors like Ahmed Best (Jar Jar) and Jake Lloyd (Child Anakin).

@Ikajo Yeah that was a HUGE amount of stupid, though it wasn't all that surprising, at least to me. "I know who you are boy, because you're me!" "Until everything is me." This shows the different perspectives of Yondu and Ego right there. Yondu sees himself in others, while Ego wants to force everything to be like him. It's someone who lives for and within the universe versus one who just wants to control it, a feeling person versus a utilitarian who just uses people. Quite powerful, and only just noticed it.

Piggybacking on your remark, but it's worth noting that Yondu is dissatisfied by the reflection he sees of himself in others, recognizing the flaws he shares with them and clearly understanding those flaws have harmed both himself and those he is/was close to. I think the way Yondu says “because you’re _me_ “ gets me choked up every time because the whole monologue his tone has been somewhat condescending, sarcastic, and harsh, but the way his voice immediately softens when he says ‘me’ pulls at my heart— he isn’t attacking rocket, but they both know the only way to get closer to each other is to be brash and cold to show you’re not gonna be pushed around by the other (as rocket pushes away venerability at any cost) followed by some way of saying “I’m not going to hurt you, I know you’re already in pain.”

Mr Maws +231
Mr Maws

I'm honestly shocked at the somewhat disappointed reception this film had with many fans. It's better directed, with better cinematography, a better score, better constructed action and most importantly - it's FAR more layered and thematically rich than the first film. Vol .2 says so much about parental and familiar strife, abuse and growth that I discover something new every time I see it. The first may be more streamlined on a narrative level, but that's its only upside over Vol. 2 imo. And I adore Vol. 1. The overuse of humor in the MCU is one of my biggest issues with it, and many people cite this film as one of the worst examples of intrusive humor....and when I first saw it I had the same problem. But aside a couple of dud gags here and there I feel that Gunn's humor is easily the most organic and natural to the material since the days of Favreau and Whedon. Most other overly funny MCU films simply feel like they are imitating either Favreau, Whedon or Gunn. Or all three. And it ALWAYS falls flat imo. Lesser MCU directors try and conform the film around the "house style" MCU humor while Gunn forms the humor around the film. The humor IS Gunn. Upon further viewing,, the humor doesn't stick out NEARLY as much as it did in the theater. I think at the time my tolerance for jokes in the MCU had been wearing thin, and I was hyper aware of it, looking for it to bother me instead of letting the film simply wash over me. While not hated by any means, I think Vol. 2 is pretty underrated and I hope fans come around to it more over time. Also, props for this being one of the only MCU films with a genuinely great villain.

Strange, eon took a human form to....... implement his.... plan. Yeah that's the right way to say it. Also, in the final battle you may not of noticed but the surface of the planet starts to look like a face. So yeah. Comic continuity. Comictinunity.

@Alice Anderson Eon is an entirely separate character that looks like a log with a humanoid face and a separate giant eyeball to the side. He was the mentor of Quasar (long story short: Marvel's answer to Green Lantern...only Yellow, and not in an evil Sinestro way) until he died and Epoch was born from his body...which MAY be where this Baby Groot gag came from?? Even tho Groot predates most of the Marvel heroes. Gunn knows his Marvel comics. and DC, per The Suicide Squad.

Once again, Rocket is... gah, he's just the best. I love him. Mad crush on this raccoon, man. I think it's partially to do with Bradley Cooper, but mostly it's the fact that he isn't an animal. He is one of the most emotive, well-written and fully realized characters in the film, and an utter BADASS to boot. It's more like having a crush on Nightcrawler or Megamind or something, I don't know....

2 jaar geleden
luigemini man +1
luigemini man

I honestly agree. Rocket is my favorite character in the entire MCU, not just from his sarcasm and his top notch visual effects, but his soul and the relatability in his character. Rocket’s character in the first movie was hinted to be a lot darker than he acted, but he was super closed off still and hid his emotion and love for his new family with sarcasm and comedy. In the second guardians movie, he has begun to push the rest of the guardians away. And “The Chain” really represents not that Rocket will never love Peter, but Peter will never break this shell Rocket has packed his heart with. Until he meets Yondu Yondu is a character who has been and is still going through what Rocket is - he is hard on the outside but he’s the most passionate and scared on the inside. The script even refers to them as “a mirror”. They were two sides of the same coin and for Rocket to lose him made him realize that there is a family for him he needs to accept not push away. Which leads to my favorite exchange in probably the whole MCU between Rocket and Peter Rocket: He didnt chase them away. Peter: No... Rocket: even though he yelled at them. And was always mean... and he stole batteries he didnt need. When he says “and he stole batteries he didnt need” he was not only acknowledging the bond he had with Yondu, but is beginning to open up to his new family and to mature as a character. Peter felt Rockets love for the first time and that’s why he looks so surprised. And Peter responds, “Well of course not.” Showing that he will never leave him no matter how much Rocket tries to chase them away. Thats why in Infinity War and Endgame he’s more mature and realized and can be genuine and kind to these new people once the guardians are gone, especially Thor. Rocket is now capable of love and can help others realize that there is something bigger than themselves. I saw so much of myself in him it was easy for me to latch on and love him even through his actions. This ended up being a Rocket Appretiation post but whatever

Late to the party, Ego was definitely lying to Peter about his abilities coming from Ego. Remember Ego needed Peter as a 'battery' to complete his mass world remodeling, by that very concept he has power and powers. So the only thing stopping Peter from using energy blasts and shifting matter to his will is that he believes that he doesn't have any power. So hopefully in Guardians of the Galaxy VOL.3 some incident happens when he discovers that he still has these abilities, just to a lesser extent.

@DeciMation The comics I've read are Journey into mystery featuring kid Loki, Young Avengers featuring teen Loki, Loki: Agent of Asgard, a few other comics with focus on Loki and the first one featuring Kamala Khan. Those are the only ones. Oh, and the War of the realms one. Which still left me confused because I have no idea where I might start or how to keep up with the constant crossovers and connections. And yes, I like Loki as a character. Even if the comics abuse him a lot and his portrayal in the MCU is thanks to Tom Hiddleston.

Jaar geleden
DeciMation +1

@Ikajo Well Ego, while a Celestial, isn’t exactly a god. They’re extremely powerful, but it’d be best to call their comic book counterparts gods, and not their movie iterations that. The MCU is incredibly weak in comparison to their comic book counterparts, which I chalk up to us being used to to E-616, while the MCU is most likely quite similar to E-616, but much weaker in overall power of both villains and heroes. So Quill is half human, half celestial. As for Groot, he might be part of said species in the movies, but the comics are generally separate, because Groot was established very early on in Marvel Comics history. He didn’t have his species announced until ten or so years after he was introduced, and this was back in the 50s-60s.

I do really love this movie, but I'm curious if anyone else felt like the scenes with Drax ragging on Mantis were a bit overdone? Loving all the Kurt Russell name-dropping in the first bit and yeah, I think Disney's best de-aging so far (and this is after Jackson in Capt Marvel and the Luke and Leia bits of recent Star Wars projects). They took a risk on it in making Tron but over time they've really gotten it to work. That said, if you'd name-dropped Dexter Riley, that would have been cool, too. :) #DisneyLegend

finally saw this movie the other day. i thought the first one was good, but not as good as everyone else thought. when i finally watched this movie, my mind was blown. this movie was so much better. i almost cried when yondu died because literally just before i was thinking "yondu has grown into such a wonderful character, i can't wait to see how he is in the next film" and then he sacrificed himself. and i was thinking "that's how you kill a character", you start him off as very unlikable and then you make the audience understand him (without fully redeeming him) and then you give him the badass moment and then the full redemption happens with the goodbye. yondu is a great character, and probably my favourite secondary-protagonist of the MCU.

I love JG's use of saturated, cobalt blue in both movies. It's the primary tone in the first, but he uses it as an accent against orange, gold, and yellow, making such a beautiful contrast. The cinematography alone would make this worth watching, luckily the writing is excellent & the acting brilliant, across the board. One of the best MCU films.

@reen reen i understand that, i sincerely do, but the comment section of a youtube video about how great a movie is, just isn't the best place to do so admittedly, it dampened my mood a tad, as i myself have indeed experienced loss and it does hurt a lot, i know that, and i feel bad that they had to go through it but this simply isn't the best place to talk about it a private conversation with a friend about it would work, or perhaps a chat with an adult specialized in being able to handle the subject, but there are a lot of people reading these comments who has most likely gone through loss and would rather forget it, or simply don't want to talk about it or really see the mention of the subject, and there ARE those who see it as a simple cry for attention all i am saying is that the comment section of a youtube video is just not the proper place to vent, but i do hope the person has received comfort with what they went through

8:54 I think there was another reason Mantis wanted to tell Drax about Ego. She has seen Ego killing his children for a very long time, but when she feels the overwhelming sadness in Drax when he talks about his deceased daughter, Mantis understands how Ego is supposed to feel when losing a child and thus how evil he must be for not feeling anything at all.

One of the things I love most about this movie, especially looking back at it over multiple rewatches, is how (most of) the main characters have their own arcs, but all revolve around the theme of family. Peter has it with finding his father. Rocket has it with how he pushes people away. Yondu has it with both Peter and the other Ravagers. Gamora and Nebula have it as sisters. Groot has it by, well, being the baby of the team. The only one who doesn't have much of a distinct "arc" in this sense is Drax, and I think that's why he seems to fill the most overtly comedic role, because he's perhaps the most grounded and least "full of issues" among them. He had such issues previously in needing to avenge his wife and daughter, but now he's moved on from that, and thus can be free to be the most openly comedic of them.

By far the my favorite movie, not as just a part of the MCU, but out of all movies. It is great for all audiences; it's theme is mature and all-encompassing. I feel like you missed one of the most subtle wins in this movie from Kurt Russell. The moment Quill started manifesting the celestial power, Ego's reaction wasn't that of a parent seeing their child succeed, not at first. It was literally that of someone who had finally gotten the piece of a plan that they were missing. It was completely all about his goals and not about Peter at all

Yeah, Cinemawins is just better imho. Even he sometimes hints at a flaw, but he does it diplomatically, where Sins is trying too hard to be edgy. That said, there were a couple of time when Sins found a scene so pleasing that he knocked off a couple of sins and the thing that is just gold about their videos is when they match a sequence to a piece of audio from something else. Some of those are really hilarious and not particularly critical... more like a playful riff like MST3K.

That means the lenses went from telephoto to wide-angle: Zooming Out.
