Avengers…Infinity War? Did you guys like this one? Meh, I don't know. It was alright, I guess. I'll try my best to find some decent stuff in it. Wish me luck. JUST KIDDING. I love this movie. Here's everything right with Avengers Infinity War.

Edit: Okaaaaay, time to change the ole title apparently. Less than an hour for the cursing and threats to start.

Missing Win: The look on Tom Holland's face when Peter Quill is describing Thor, as a not-very-good-looking guy. Freaking hilarious. In fact, most of the time you can see Tom Holland in the background of a scene, his facial expressions are a win. Great video though!

9:13 Peter's "You're an Avenger now" knighting is such a good flicker of a scene because Peter goes from looking enthused, after all he's always wanted to be an Avenger, to looking a bit down as he remembers their peril and then his face just forms into a distance of confusion and upset as he's a teenager facing the worst titan of all and he's scared he's going to die. In this moment alone, Peter flickers between his character and even a bit more than previously seen as he's no longer this enthused little boy who's just glad to be along for the ride and instead, he understands the fear of the situation he's living in and he is both understanding that he is a child and he is an Avenger so people are looking up to him but he is so young. Holland is incredible, is what I'm saying and is built to play Spiderman but predominantly *Peter Parker*

And this is why gatekeeping is a thing Peter Parker's/Spider-man is never really depicted as a team player in almost any universe. In the orginal Stan Lee run, Spidey beats up both the fantastic four and X-men upon first meeting them, and always performs best when working alone. For instance when working the Avengers aganist a new Sinister six planning on frying the planet, the Avengers lose hard while the Six only lose electro. Then of course Spidey beat the rest of Six with only a little help from Widow and Sliver Sable. Who mainly just helped him by providing worldwide transportation.

One more win: When Banner admits that he never thought of Shuri’s now-obvious idea, she responds, “I’m sure you did your best.” Genuine understanding! @א A No one has ever seen race as a main defining trait. Everyone is a complex person. But race has drastic effects on the way you experience the world. Trying to pretend that those effects don't exist does not get rid of them. And yes, obviously racial dynamics are different outside of the US, but this is a movie made in America by mostly Americans and was seen by tens of million of Americans, so the way it represents its characters has to be evaluated from an American perspective. It's fine to evaluate it from other perspectives, that's just not what I was doing in my original comment.

3 maanden geleden
א A +2
א A

@PlasmaKitten42 Seeing people mostly through the lens of race does not solve anything. This is racism by definition. In the situation I describe - a situation where people are treated as people and not as a collection of uncontrollable traits that determine their value as oppressed victims, or cruel oppressors - obviously they will treat everyone equally and deal with things from the past, it really does not erase the existence of different races, it's just does not seeing race as the main trait that defines you. Shuri is very very privileged. there is nothing wrong with that. She was just born to a certain place and time, and had innate qualities that helped her succeed, with a heugh amount of hard work, it goes without saying. The same goes for Bruce Banner or any fictional character or real person who has succeeded in life. Obviously ethnicity plays a role in the multitude of factors that influence success, but it is really not the only factor nor the main one. (What's more, Shuri living in Africa clearly show the idea that many Americans simply do not understand - there is a world outside of America! A white person in Japan is a minority group - does that automatically mean they are oppressed? Slavery has existed throughout history, it's really not special to black people, the Ottoman Empire had institutionalized slavery of whites until its disintegration, does that mean a descendant of those slaves is a poor victim for life before any other trait?)

3 maanden geleden
PlasmaKitten42
PlasmaKitten42

@א A Shuri is a fictional character. Yes, in universe she is probably quite privileged but she represents a demographic that is very much NOT so in the real world. And your "little bit smart guy" has literally 7 PHDs, it don't get much more privileged. The solution to the Oppression Olympics is not to give up. If we go post-racial and pretend skin color doesn't matter, it becomes impossible to get rid of the racist policies we already have. Imagine the struggle: "hey that voting policy makes it harder for black people to vote, can we get rid of it?" "Bro what's a black person?"

3 maanden geleden
א A +2
א A

@PlasmaKitten42 I am pretty sure that a super- smart- scientist- princes of the most advanced century on earth is way more privileged then some a little bit smart guy with anger management issues (you can even compare it to a mental lines) that doesn't mean she has done something wrong, or that something would be gained by "knocking her down a peg every so often". That's the thing with these "Operation Olympics", you can never win. There will always be someone who suffered more then you, and someone who is more privileged then you- so what? There is no point in enriching somebody else's suffering. The only thing that will help people is that we treat them based on the content of their character, not the color of their skin, or their sex, or any other uncontrollable characteristic.

I really like that scene with Thanos and Gamora where they talk about how he "saved" her planet. She raises her voice and gets all emotional while Thanos stays calm and collected and doesn't raise his voice at all the entire time. It's just another small part of how they made Thanos into the sympathetic level headed villain.

@Mazra It would have made more sense if Thanos did to the universe what the Salarians did to the Krogan in the Mass effect universe, just made their procreation viability decrease by a certain percentage. If he made every thing in the galaxy less viable by 50% or however much it needed to be, it would have been fine, no one has to die, just everyone reproduces far less. Within a generation or two there would be a noticeable difference of the population.

I'm glad you addressed this, because this is something I noticed recently that made me see this as the true greatest MCU movie. Thanos is the protagonist, and the narrative centers around his quest, which is part of the reason the ending isn't completely unsatisfying. We've been following this character for hours, seeing his plan, his struggles, and even his insecurities and complex emotions, so seeing him win doesn't feel so bad, even if we believe he was still in the wrong. The fact that this movie subverts the superhero narrative so greatly by painting the villain as the hero is the crux of what makes it an absolute masterpiece in my eyes

The spider man becoming an avenger scene is way underrated because not only as mentioned the musical cue is great but spider man being so happy he was an avenger but then realising this could risk his life with that facial expression change is amazing on Tom Holland's part

Not to mention his realisation of the responsibility that is now on his shoulders, all he's wanted from Tony is to be accepted, and Civil War Peter would be so excited and jumping for joy and unable to shut up at being madden Avenger, however this scene displays that he knows full well what that actually entails, and that shows real character growth since his first couple of appearances.

Without any infinity stones, Thanos would be just another space warlord - he would only be deserving of a spot on that list as of a few days or less before this conversation.

I love the point you made about Thanos being the protagonist. I’ve seen some people complain that he’s too simplistic and not as nuanced in Endgame but the reason for that is that we are now seeing his actions from Nebula’s point of view.

Here's an important question: Tony says Wong is invited to his wedding, and I assume Tony and Pepper get married during the 5 year jump, but did we ever find out if Wong survived the snap and attended the wedding?!

I lost it with that back and forth between the egos. Poor Parker would have been shredded in a smart ass barb match between Quill, Stark and Strange. Thank god they were out in space, because earth's atmosphere wouldn't be able to contain their inflated egos. 😂

I always questioned why on earth starlord would do such a stupid and rash thing when he ruined the plan on titan. But now that I remember his IMMEDIATE murderous rage towards Ego after he confessed that he killed starlords mom in Guardians Vol.2. It makes total sense that he would do this here, starlord is an emotional character at his core and NOTHING matters to him more than those he loves.

And an incredibly subtle one. The Red Skull, previously portrayed by Hugo Weaving, is instead portrayed by Ross Marquand in his one scene. Marquand is skilled at impressions, and the facial prosthesis makes it additionally difficult to notice this.

I think Thor arriving with Stormbreaker deserved more than 15 points. That was just such an utterly perfect moment, an amazing payoff to a decade of movies and the preceding 2 hours or so. I don't think I'll ever hear a theater erupt in that kind of cheer again. And it's just insane when you think about it. It's a raccoon, a tree, and a Norse god teleporting into the middle of a massive battle against invading aliens in a secret high-tech African nation. That entire sentence is just a bunch of nonsense. Imagine telling someone a decade ago who just saw the first Iron Man that _this_ is where this whole thing's gonna lead. But it did. And it worked.

Although Starlord's decision to hit Thanos angered everyone watching, he had every right to react like that. He watched is mother die, found out his father killed her and then watched him die, and saw his adoptive father just 5 minutes after his biological one. Him finding out Gamora was also killed? Man, as much as we all hated him for doing that, he's allowed to.

Should’ve added 5 wins for the scene with tony and pepper when they talk about their future (possible child) and tony says “you know me so well”. Their relationship has had its ups and downs and after seeing its affect on tony in civil war it really makes you appreciate how much detail they put into their relationship. It’s also what holds tony back in endgame too so it’s a nice touch to the film

I read that Thanos’ plan was actually more credible if yeah, 1) he snaps half away to create balance and free up resources but 2) The LEGEND of what he did is even more powerful in the long run after the actual event and in years and decades it would serve as a warning and a threat to do better and be more careful (if the affected people had issues or not)

It's a sin that you didn't mention one of the most subtle pieces of internal consistency in the franchise. After losing Yinsen when he couldn't get the suit ready quick enough, one of the things Tony has always prioritized in newer suits has been putting the thing on faster. From the mechanical arms, to the suitcase, to the individually flying pieces, eventually leading us to the nanotech.
