Nothing is good enough for Star Wars freaks these days. They spend their life on Star Wars and can’t be anything but disappointed with new things even tho some of the things are unbelievably good. Yes the new movies were trash but not everything is. They need to be more balanced but it won’t happen.

This is without a doubt my favorite Star Wars movie. The last 10 minutes alone are some of the best Star Wars there is. That scene where Vader’s Star destroyer comes out of hyperspace and collided with the escaping rebel ships was amazing. The Death Star appearing on the horizon was beautiful. And then, of course, my favorite scene in all Star Wars. Truly amazing movie.

Force user is one thing, but everyone has a conection with it AND can listen to it. Thats whats basicaly called Serene Mind, some of us call that state Ultra instinct these day's, a level where your completly calm, and thats whats needed to listen to the living force anyway. Wield it is a different thing, listen to it as it tells you things is something else, and jirot did listen. This was an incredible star wars movie. It was dirty, gritty and visceral. The fact that there was no miraculous escape made it that much more deeply inspiring. I love the way that they conveyed a sense of cold and mercilessness tactics perpetrated by both the opposing sides of the conflict. It was a stand-alone, which is fitting because it works beautifully without the need to use a sequel as a proverbial crutch.

Favorite movie of mine and my dsd too! It is the most adult film of all of star wars in my opinion and I think it is why my dad likes it too. Cassian Andor killing his terrified friend in the ally is the most realistic and dark moment in Star Wars. I know there are other dark scenes but here you have a innocent human character killed on camera. In contrast to Anakin killing the children off camera.

Hearing the breathing, the lightsaber ignition, then watching Vader go HAM in the hallway was one of the greatest Star Wars experiences in the fandom. Finally, we're not hearing how feared Vader is, we get to see it. And shout out to that actor playing the rebel commando that is first in line to see Vader. Great bit of physical acting. We can feel his fear through the screen. That hallway scene transported me back to 1977 and seeing Star Wars for the first time.

7:47 What I like is how they only use the Death Star to destroy the city, and later to destroy the base to try and make sure that they didn't get away with the plans, as it shows some of it's power to the galaxy, so it gives more meaning when Tarkin says, "I think it's time to show the full power of this station." in A New Hope.

The reason this is my favorite of all the Star Wars movies is bc it's so dark and gritty that it makes you scared of the Empire again. Maybe they were still a little scary in 5, but by the time 6 rolls around I got kind of used to the good guys winning. Enough so that I honestly forgot that in 4, the rebels are the underdogs, about to be crushed under the boot of the Empire. Between the hallway scene, the AT-ACT appearing through the smoke on the beach, and Cassian having to shoot his friend to avoid giving away intel, we're immediately confronted with the scariest Empire we've seen yet. That's why I love this movie. Also, whoever decided to give Vader a choking pun and an entire mini-horror film at the end deserves a huge raise.

@Banzai51 I disagree that Star Wars grew worse the more it focused on the Jedi. Rebels has more explanation of the force and the Jedi than we've seen, except for maybe in The Last Jedi, and Rebels is some of my favorite Star Wars content. Yes, Star Wars is all about the wars, but the wars are because of the force. The Empire exists because Palpatine wanted to dominate the light side of the force and show that the dark is more powerful. If Palpatine didn't have his long-term plans through the Clone Wars, then The OT story simply doesn't make sense. Everything is because of the struggle between the light and the dark, and everyone else gets brought into the crossfire.

I've been a fan of Star Wars since seeing the originals in theaters as a kid. I have to say, Rogue One is probably my favorite. Call me a heretic if you will, but I feel like they finally dropped all of the cutesy crap and gave us a glimpse of what a life fighting the Empire would be like, with all the grit, determination, desperation and loss that comes with it. Don't get me wrong, I love each and every one of the other films (although Jar-Jar does make me wince a little) for the stories they tell and they way Lucas/Disney told them. Rogue One, from my perspective, just hits the sweet spot and I would love to see more Star Wars movies done this way. They could even take it a step further and make it a bit more like this SC 38 Reimagined clip I found: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=to2SMng4u1k It's obviously not perfect, but it's more like what I see in my mind's eye when reading the books describing Jedi fight scenes and battles. More like if John Wick was a Jedi, I guess, since the Jedi and Sith are powerful, dangerous beings capable of almost unimaginable violence. Hmmmm...a Chad Stahelski version of Star Wars? The film as a whole, and particularly the third act, is amazing. One of the best Star Wars films ever. Emotionally poignant from the acting to the score. They made the Death Star into an actual threat to the point that it gives you chill when you see it rise over Scarif. We had never seen what true devastation the Death Star could cause until this film. The POV of the people on the planet. It's that point of view that retroactively strengthens the power of the Death Star. Watching Alderaan blow up doesn't have the emotional weight that the destruction of an entire planet should have. It just feels like a lot of mustache twirling. They never even thought to show Leia properly grieving for its destruction, not to mention the loss of her father and mother. The destruction of Jedha City also sticks with you, because you see Jyn and Cassian walk its streets and see its people. When that skirmish breaks out between the empire and Saw's extremists, Jyn even saves a toddler from the fight. But then you watch as the Death Star fires down on it. . . And you remember that child and those people, who are completely gone. I love the risks and chances the film took.

Rewatching Rogue One I realized it was a lot better than I remembered, and in my opinion better than the entire sequel trilogy and just a masterpiece of a Star Wars movie. And might I add that the Vader hallway scene is so amazing it brought literal tears of joy to my eyes and reminded me why he's my favorite Sith.

You’re right that Rogue One would make a perfectly good standalone film, because at its heart it’s a WWII flick transported to a sci-fi setting. I’d compare it less to any of the other SW films and more to an espionage/adventure movie like 1961’s The Guns of Navarone

Dag geleden

What I love about this movie is it feels like a ww2 movie set in the Star Wars universe. Think "Dirty Dozen" or "Guns of Navarone." None of these characters expect to make it out alive. They're just doing their part, giving their lives, in hopes that it will lead to victory later on. The idea of putting other film genres ibto this universe works brilliantly.

20:10 WHAAAAAT??? I don’t see how this scene is bad, one of my favorite stand-alone scenes in all of SW! Also, if they think this scene is worse than basically any scene in the sequels or most of the scenes of the prequels then (in the words of Obi-Wan) “They[you] are truly lost!”

I really liked this movie. And it's because it reminded me of Halo Reach. "I know we're losing, I want to know if we've lost." as Kat puts it can make for some excellent stories, in my opinion. That desperation, and the fact that characters have to (sometimes literally) pick a hill to die on. When death is certain, what do you do with what you have left? And when the answer is "go down fighting," you can get movie magic. Also, that bleakness was the entire point of this film. Note how the only lightsaber is red. No Jedi coming to the rescue with space magic. They have to make do with what's available. And Vader in the hallway is superb. Shows exactly why he was the most feared man in the galaxy. He was the face of the Empire, Palpatine's chief enforcer. Carved through those rebel soldiers like they were a minor annoyance.

I was so pleased when you mentioned Halo Reach because that's actually one of the first things I felt coming out of the theater "wow that reminded me of Halo Reach". The fact that they fight and they fight some more and they feel like they won, only for it to be completely undermined by another, deadlier attack from the enemy... but they keep on fighting anyway. Even the aesthetic of certain scenes reminded me of the game. I have never felt that much with another film even though many others have tried to create that general atmosphere of "we're on our last leg but we cannot stop because hope is everything". The Rise of Skywalker actually tried to sell us that the Resistance was dying out but it never felt as dire and truly ending as in Rogue One. And it might seems like an easy shot at one of the worst installments of the saga, but really it ain't the only film that failed to truly deliver the emotional impact and the raw delight in seeing that yes, it seemed doomed, but you didn't give up and now you're rewarded because your fight was righteous. Damn. Rogue One makes me feel!!!

OH THANK YOU FOR THIS POST, so I'm not the only one? sometimes they make you feel you're obliged to choose a trilogy and hate the others. Of course I have something for the original trilogy because I have so many memories with it and for more years, but I love them all, even the ewoks movies and , sorry George, the holiday special. I remember renting the vhs star wars episode 4 (years before owning it myself on vhs, dvd, blu ray, disney plus..). and watching it all week end to be able to see it for the 100TH time on the tenth anniversary of the film (many times in theater before and after) and while watching, writing a 100 pages letter (snail mail) to a dear star wars friend at the time (reunited again now thanks to facebook, she's still a fan). Rogue one is so astounding. I thought I would hate it as everybody dies. That's the film we all wanted to see ever since there was a choke in our throat and tears in our eyes the first time we heard that line "many bothans died..." (thanks for mentionning it in this video.

Hey! I love this video! I've watched all your Star Wars vids at least 5 times each. One thing I noticed that I think you may have missed - in the scene where Cassian says "I'm not the one you need to convince," I interpreted it as Cassian talking about the Rebel leader(s) who ordered him to kill Galen Erso. That's why he responded so disdainfully to Chirrut's comment. I might be reading it wrong but I feel like that's why he decided not to kill Erso - the will of the Force (and Chirrut) had already saved him, and he was beginning to trust it.

I love this movie amd I feel like for a first viewing, it should be watched before A New Hope. The intro to Vader and the Death Star is just superior and it leads into it so well. Having said that, it talks about the jedi and the force a lot in ways that expects us to know what they are without actually explaiming them, meaning you need to have watched something else first. With that in mind, I'd like to submit a viewing order. 1. The Force Awakens, then flash back to 2. Solo 3. Rogue One 4. A New Hope 5. Empire Strikes Back, then flash back to 6. Attack of the Clones 7. Revenge of the Sith, then flash forward to 8. Return of the Jedi, then flash forward again to 9. The Last Jedi, amd omit The Phantom Menace and The Rise of Skywalker because they are both completely unnecessary. I've given it a lot of thought and the only issue is that it tells you Luke and Leia are siblings in TFA's opening crawl but, I mean, you can get over that. You might even forget about it by the time it comea up again. Otherwise, I recomend it. I just tried it and I have never had such a feeling of consistency from the franchise. Go on. Give it a chance. Dyoo it!

I can honestly say that rogue one is my absolute favorite Star Wars movie. It’s not about crazy aliens or epic lightsaber duels. It’s about people. It’s about war. It’s about the ideologies that drive the empire and the rebellion. It shows the darkness within the light and the light within the darkness. Rogue One just has more emotional impact. It's less cartoony and G rated. Good people do bad things. Bad people attempt to redeem themselves. Imperfect people struggle to do the right thing, to resist what seems insurmountable. The Empire isn't just a bunch of clowns in white armor, that can't hit anything they shoot at. They are ruthless, skilled, dangerous. I wish the characters had been developed better, as it would have made their sacrifice that much more impactful. Much of the first half to two thirds of the movie kind of dragged, and seemed unnecessarily padded out. Rounding up a bunch of no-name soldiers at the end was a bit too convenient. There is plenty to nit pick. But overall, the arc and the impact was there. It would have been really interesting to see what the movie would have turned out as if Edwards had been allowed to complete it to his vision, instead of the Disney behemoth stepping in and pasteurizing it.

'not leave the theater all weepy and depressed' excuse you, this movie made me cry! No joke, watching each member slowly die freaking killed me. The only one that didn't really effect me was the pilot. Baze holding Chirrut as he died, his clear sorrow over the loss of someone he CLEARLY loved, it hurt. K-2SO sacrificing himself after only JUST having accepted Jyn as a FRIEND made my eyes BURN and my throat close up, and then Jyn and Cassian staring out at the wave of destruction headed towards them, then collapsing in an embrace, accepting their deaths, knowing that they did all they could and it was now in the hands of the rest of the resistance... I was in genuine tears. I won't lie, I absolutely love this movie, as much as I love The Force Awakens, as much as I love Revenge of the Sith. Any film that can genuinely move me to tears is exceptional in my book. Also, K-2SO was my favorite non-human character, and my favorite human is a tie between Cassian (as you pointed out, he shows a side of the rebels we've NEVER seen before, something that's never even been HINTED at in the films, by outright killing the guy with one arm, yet he's still a genuinely likable character) and Chirrut.

Кирилл Дектярев the rebel forces are stronger than you think. And in the Star Wars canon, the only know Jedi (asides from Obi-Wan and Yoda) are Kanan & Ezra (if you count Ezra as a Jedi). Maul was probably already dead by the time Rogue One happened when he confronted Obi-Wan in Tatooine and Ahsoka's fate is still unknown. And Kanun & Ezra are the only known Jedi at that point that are physically fighting against the Empire. Have you really forgotten about Order 66? You should know by know that Jedis are hard to come by especially Jedi Knights. If you want pure Jedi vs Sith fights just look at the trailers of the Knights of the Old Republic game where the number of Sith and Jedi are pretty much the same.
