I love the flip in this movie of Nick being the serious one and Simon being the fuck up. It’s not as iconic as Shaun or Hot Fuzz, but I always enjoy the progression of the trilogy.

Both Simon and nick play one of three “character types” (for lack of a better term) Shaun of the dead: Simon: Average joe Nick: slacker Hot Fuzz: Simon: straight-man Nick: average joe The worlds end: Simon: slacker Nick: straight-man

I find it funny that in Shaun of the dead both characters are fuck ups, in hot fuzz, nick's the fuck up and in this one, simon is the fuck, it's perfectly balanced as it needed to be

@Striker Bowls Yeah, Shaun of the Dead and Hot Fuzz are absolutely foremost in most people's minds. When CinemaWins made these videos, I literally had to describe this movie as "the 3rd one, about aliens, after Shaun and Hot Fuzz" for people to even know I wasn't talking about Pirates of the Caribbean. Shaun of the Dead obviously has the most memes too. It's just the one that the average person seems to remember and like the most.

One thing that I love about the film is how because the "blood" of the Blanks is blue and their bodies so inhuman on the inside, it means that Wright can dial the violence to 11 and have us barely notice it. Both us and the censors are just thinking "Wow!" instead of "Ew..." simply because our brains aren't responding so instinctively to the "gore", while still appreciating the fun action

"there's a whole Matthew Vaughn's Kingsman hand-held feeling to this fight scene." "Some of these action scenes give me Jackie Chan feels, if maybe slowed down a tad"  Dunno if anyone's already mentioned this but the fight choreographer on World's End was Brad Allan who also choreographed Kingsman and who is a former member of the Jackie Chan Stunt Team. Hey so as a car nerd I’ve got to point out that all of the cars in the back ground of the city are Vauxhall ampera’s which are all hybrids which is just a really good detail of the film that links to the fact that it was already over taken by robots by the time Gary and his friends got there Love the videos by the way :)

Came here to comment this. Although it's worth noting that the cars only get gradually replaced by the Amperas - or maybe they just couldn't control every single car in the daytime outdoor shots (I just checked, there's plenty of other vehicles at the beginning). In any case, it's a fair assumption that this was alluding to the town being replaced with futuristic thingies (as well as being a likely product placement).

People often scoff when I name this as the best film in the Cornetto Trilogy, and even moreso when I name it as one of my favourite films ever, but it really is that good. Fundamentally, it is incredibly funny, on par with Wrights best work, but it also has so many layers, with little details that reward you on multiple viewings. For me, it is incredibly relatable, as when you're young, everyone has been on a pub crawl that got a little out of hand; but as I grow older, I start to sympathise with the growing up/people changing aspect of it too. All the little quirks, easter eggs, and what I like to call Edgar Wright-isms make this film such a classic and I hope one day, it might get the respect it deserves. There is so much too this film and I look forward to hearing your outro on this one because it could genuinely last for an hour.

10 maanden geleden
Stickie Dmin +2

Fuzz is more immediately likeable, as is Shaun, but this one is *_SSssooooo_* deep. Even for an Edgar Wright movie, the layers just go on and and on and on. There's *_always_* something new to spot.

10 maanden geleden
Jonathan Bates +2
Jonathan Bates

As someone who's never been on a pub crawl, or even goes to pubs, it wasn't relatable at all. I think between that, the gloomy feeling through the movie, and the general jerk of a main character, I just never enjoyed this movie. On a technical level it is brilliant, but I'll rewatch Hot Fuzz regularly and can easily pass watching this again when I just want to be entertained.

10 maanden geleden
fen +2

If you gave me a choice of which movie in the trilogy to watch, I'd pick Hot Fuzz most of the time, because it's just more upbeat and feels good. But World's End is the best of the three, it's the most refined, intelligent and adult of all those movies. I do hope they'll break the trilogy and hit a fourth movie, because the growth in competency from Spaced -> Shaun -> Fuzz -> World's End is incredible.

I think the problem with Edgar's films, if indeed it can really be called a problem, is that people go into them expecting the usual cinema fare of, essentially, a burger and fries and he just casually serves up a 9-course banquet of a movie. With coffee and liqueurs. Which then means you need to watch it about 8 more times in order to appreciate it.

Commenting before I watch: This was my least favorite of the Cornetto Trilogy when it first came out. However, now that I'm a depressed adult who hasn't accomplished his younger self's dreams, this movie hits hard. I think I actually cried the first time I rewatched it since it was in theaters.

Nick frost deserved an award just for his reactions in this movie, all of the noises he makes in response to Gary as his frustration grows is just like PEAK quality

Your videos on Edgar Wright’s films are some of my favourite, so I can’t wait to watch this! Baby Driver and Scott Pilgrim were two of your best videos in my opinion!

I remember seeing this at the cinema and really getting into Gary's story arc before the first robot showed up. The most poignant moment in the movie was when he almost punched the wall in the exact same place he'd punched it 20 years earlier. I was almost disappointed when it all kicked off immediately after...

Firstly, thank you so much for finally doing this movie. I love the World's End and it was my introduction to Wright as a director when it came out. It's by far my favorite of the Cornetto Trilogy and one of my favorite comedies. Secondly, I cannot wait to hear the themes you pull in part two. I have been waiting for someone to talk about this fantastic movie but no one seems to know about it. - M

It’s my favorite too. It’s the first one that I ever sat all the way through. A lot of people don’t like it because of the character change. I love these guys.

This is flat out my favorite film. Literally, the only things I’d change are dumb nitpicks like Gary’s SOM tattoo looks a little off/fake. I love the acting and every joke lands exactly how it’s supposed to. Most comedies I see usually have a few jokes that miss. But not this. It’s as close to a perfect film as you could get

This was so cool to watch. Not only do I love this film but I live in the town used for most of the filming. The fact about the Quakers is 100% true and the building used for the nightclub is actually a cinema. I remember them filming it briefly and all of the signs being changed. Such an underrated film and really funny for me recognising all the places😅
