To give my own personal praise to Pedro Pascal, I watched this entire movie with someone in the cinema. After it was over, I turned to her and said, "that wasn't half bad, but I gotta say... I didn't see Pedro Pascal anywhere. I thought he would have been an important character or something? Where was he? Did I miss him?" The look and following ridicule I received was fucking priceless. @Sneaky Snek - aww, I had written a long post detailling the life and deeds of Max Lord in the DC univers, pre & post Crisis, but it seems like I forgot to press "send" > Long story short: yes, he's a character that has, for long, been closely related to the Justice League. First as a backer/ally, then as a villain. And one of the big moments of his existence was the time Diana went full Superman vs Zod on him, which caused the population of planet Earth, including Batman and Superman, to turn their back to her. (She had good reasons to kill him, it was a desperate situation) So the whole movie I was scared for my boy Pedro Pascal; after Game of Thrones, he deserves to keep his head intact the rest of his career IMHO.

@BigFatCone it was still better than the Snyder Cut tho. It tried to actualy portray the characters as people, not bland cut-outs of what teenagers want them to be, didn't try to rush the story to catch up with Marvel and presented better foreshadowing of their future plans without shoving it on our faces like an impatient child saying "are we Avengers yet? Are we Avengers yet? Are we Avengers yet?" And most important, Whedon is fully aware its a superhero blockbuster movie desperately trying to unsink the Titanic it started with, while Snyder goes out making every movie trying to be the next Alfred Hitchcock with weird aspect ratios, black-and-white versions and plastering his name on the title as if thats the relevant part of the movie, not his clusterfuck of a script.

My theory for the Wonder Woman films is that they are corresponding to the eras of comic books. The first was golden age, set during a war and didn’t shy away from killing. This movie was a perfect translation of the silver age, a fun romp kicked off by a random plot device that doesn’t change too much by the end. The overt focus on Wonder Woman not killing is reminiscent of the comics code authority that defined the silver age.

Although Captain would never kick a man already down. Barbara's scene started with her standing up for herself, immediately went too far with her sadistically torturing someone to death; not for justice, but for revenge. The parallel they drew here with MCU is about how a underdog turned superhuman like Captain America could be so different from him, as Day and Night. It always come down to their integrity and how compassionate they are.

The score at the beginning is my favorite. It's the same progression and rhythm as the main theme but in a major key. It shows that when she was young, Diana was full of hope and optimism. The first time her theme appears in the first movie is during the battle when her entire world view is shifted after witnessing the horrors of war.

@Stickie Dmin it just sucks cause it feels like the Majority of people DO want this (more representation, etc) especially when on the internet, but no, the real majority don’t and companies need to bring in profits (which I wish they could just make movies because they actually have a story to tell and not for money, but I get that that is not how capitalism works). A lot of smaller companies (mainly anything but Hollywood) do seem to be adding it more and more which is great. Hopefully, as the generations age, the majority WILL be the people who want better love stories for everyone. (And to be fair, I haven’t actually seen deadpool 2 but now I’m intrigued)

8 maanden geleden
Stickie Dmin +2

@Bridget Some intriguing ideas developing here, that's for certain. Sadly though, I don't think that mainstream audiences are quite ready to deal with that kind of a story in their superhero movies. Some directors and studios *_do_* seem to be getting the hang of 'proper' representation however (as we saw in Deadpool 2), rather than the forced tokenism we've seem elsewhere, so there *_is_* some hope. We'll just have to cross our fingers that audiences respond positively to that kind of thing if and when it appears - if there's backlash, the studios will lose any interest at all in positive representation and go back to serving the lowest common denominators.

@Colechamdiceman xD yep. I thought the same thing. It’d be nice if companies stopped writing a script half way, took a step back, asked themselves ‘is this LGBT+?, is there any romantic vibes?’ If yes, go with it - fully commit. If no, then no need to add it. It should just... happen naturally. But tbf, about 95% of media romance is shoehorned in and feels unnatural, even in primarily romance movies. But yeah, especially LGBT.

@Colechamdiceman aweeee, nooo that would have been perfect!! Barbra seeing herself as inferior and just wanting to keep Diana’s attention by reaching her level, but ruining what drew Diana in in the first place. They wouldn’t even have to kiss, even just holding eachother (but yeahhhh a kiss would be great, a good way to end that whole arc). The emotional conflicts the growing rift could cause as a main central story line would be so heart breaking (as opposed to all the ...weirdness with the weird thing that happens with her previous lover (who was implemented.. really weirdly and yes, very, very wrongly. There was no need for them to ‘woohoo’ with another dudes body)). Maybe the next movie x)

This story was more about Diana being Diana, than it was a Wonder Woman story.

@ERAUPRCWA They're not talking about the comics. Diana wasn't allowed to train in the 1st WW movie & the statement about walking away 100 years ago was in a previous movie. They literally said "DCEU" & "BvS". If you want to be condescending, make sure you actually read 1st. They broke their own continuity.

I’ve been waiting for this video ever since the movie came out. I was starting to think I was the crazy one for liking it while everyone who’s opinion I respect hated it. It kinda reminds me of everyone’s reaction to Iron Man 3, which I also liked when it first came out. Give it a couple years, I think a lot of people are gonna come around on this movie.

Great video for a film that deserves more love. Perhaps this sequel was so divisive because people wanted the same kind of reverence in tone that the first Wonder Woman film had but, in my opinion, they underestimate how much of an impact the setting in ~1917 had on that film and that it very much informed the way people behaved in it. This film, on the other hand, is very distinctly linked to the trademarks of the 80s and people's behavior then, so I think it's only right that it's tone is different from the first film while Diana is still the central beacon of sincerity that the first film made is fall in love with. P.S. Where is the Iove for Zimmer's score or did I miss that?

Thank you for this, I liked this film very much (having seen it yesterday for the first time), cried my eyes out over it, it impressed me like no other DC film, so I'm really upset by people generally hating it. Thanks for saying something nice and optimistic and reassuring.

Finally saw the film today. And i have to say, that it actually wasn't as bad as anticipated. I thought it was quite enjoyable. Of course it had it's flaws, but i liked how the focus here wasn't just on cgi or action scenes but on the emotional and personal aspect of the characters and their developement.

The biggest issue I had with this movie is that it is so inconsistent. Some of the scenes are great and maybe even among my favorites in the current line of DC-movies. And then you have some scenes, that make you questions if you're watching a fan-product. Also the story seems to be all over the place. There is a good movie in there somewhere, they just didn't get it out

I've been waiting for this one! The film has a ton of flaws but there are also a lot of good performances and interesting ideas and overall I enjoyed the act of watching. I saw it with my family and when it was done they said "meh" and got up to leave. I'd been marathoning your videos and beyond being primed to pay attention to the positives, as someone currently in film school I was really annoyed that they could just shrug off an entire film as "meh" when so many people both above and below the line had done some really good work that unfortunately didn't cohere overall. I love this channel for a lot of reasons, but one of them is that you intentionally highlight some of the work that goes into a film that the average movie-going public wouldn't think about and reinforce the idea that making a movie is a collaborative process filled with lots of people who do good work. Congratulations on the impending baby!

One thing I'd like to add is that even Egypt didn't lose anything, when the emir renounced his wish. The wall was actually on the river, which filled up after the wall disappeared. I will say that I enjoyed the movie tho, I rented it when I saw you post this video, so I could not spoil myself

Really wish they'd had the "Give up Steve" thing be done later in the movie, with Diana taking up the armour as a way to have her wish and only realizing it wasn't going to work and she'd have to give it up.

Yup, that simple reorder fixes a lot. She uses the armor to be strong again and fly--it doesn't work (she loses to Cheetah), and after a bit of a pity fest about how the armor was supposed to solve her problem she gets a pep talk and has to give up Steve and learn to fly on her own. That still doesn't make the movie *good* but it fixes a few problems at least.

Just like that +6

YES, this is exactly my thinking, have her refuse to give Steve up, really sell it, which would give her a good reason for wearing the the armour. Then in her fight with Cheetah, she's losing, she finally realises what she's losing by not having giving Steve up - Cheetah goes to land a final blow, Diana all powered up, Steve gone, stops her and goes on to beat her. End scene.

When I saw this movie, I took my teenage sister and my teenage niece with me. My sister struggles with her identity and sense of self, while my niece struggles with her sense of self-worth. Both are beautiful, intelligent, compassionate girls and I love them to pieces. And after we saw this movie, I remember they spent the next half hour, telling me how much they loved it, how much Diana inspired them, and how they both want to be like Wonder Woman as a hero. This movie has flaws, no doubt about it. But I just can't help but love it, because it made these two girls feel empowered and that they can be the heroes of their own stories.

I love this movie. I enjoyed it from beginning to end I thought all 3 acts were good. While the first Wonder Woman I think first 2 acts are far more better then in ww84 the 3rd act was not that memorable for me. Now this movie has a lot of flaws but I don’t like when people hate a film more then it needs to be hated. I still acknowledge what’s good about the movie even while understanding it’s flaws. And I feel like people should do that more.

I love the channel. I love all the reviews, and the extreme lengths gone to find the good in any movie featured... but I'm tapping out on this one. I just can't do it. This was the most hilariously bad movie I've seen in many years. I've not seen anything that made me laugh so hard at things that weren't supposed to be funny since the 80's. My favorite is when the Mandolorian takes back his wish, stands there a moment, and then just runs out of the room. All the points in the world for Pedro, I'm sure he did his best with what he was given.

18:05 yeah that was a big gripe for me too. I understand why some people wouldn't want to renounce their wish but it was pretty stupid seeing the people who were facing immediate consequences for their wish needing to be convinced to renounce. Heck one guy had literally wished some random person to drop dead and he still needed to be convinced by Diana to renounce his wish.
